Wholespire
In 2013, Wholespire (then called Eat Smart Move More) of Anderson County was created. Wholespire Anderson County is a local chapter of a statewide movement aimed at coordinating obesity prevention efforts. It was established through the leadership of United Way, the City of Anderson, and Anderson County. This program is focused on uniting a wide variety of community partners to work together to increase active living, improve healthy eating, and decrease adult and childhood obesity in the community. In 2021 Eat Smart Move More South Carolina rebranded under the new name of Wholespire.
The mission of Wholespire is to knock down barriers to healthy eating and active living and heal communities that suffer from poor nutrition and physical inactivity due to circumstances beyond their control. They help educate communities about nutrition and the dangers of a poor diet and ultimately provide them with greater access to affordable, fresh, and healthy food. To promote active living, Wholespire's HEAL coalition seeks to increase safe access to physical activities in communities that lack proper facilities, such as sidewalks and crosswalks, and equipment.
