Youth Volunteer Corps Meets Community Needs
United Way of Anderson County has a special program for teens ages 11-18 called the Youth Volunteer Corps of Anderson County. Currently we have over 250 teens who are volunteers with the Youth Volunteer Corps. The mission of YVC is to create unique community service opportunities across Anderson County that engage youth that are educational, challenging, and rewarding.
The youth work on service projects for nonprofit agencies on Saturdays during the school year, and participate in Summer of Service camps during the months of July and August. Some of the projects completed this year include building a wheelchair ramp, arts and crafts with seniors, SnackPack notes and assembly, litter clean ups, sorting clothing donations and many more.
In 1987, YVC began as a summer volunteer program in Kansas City, and has since expanded its reach with YVC Affiliates offering year-round service opportunities in communities across the U.S. and Canada. Youth Volunteer Corps of Anderson County is one of over 30 affiliates.
